For this 2010 Free Form Challenge I decided to crochet a Conifer Cone Capelet in Solomon’s knot, without making any chains, using a variegated silk ribbon. The matching loose “necklace” was made by a crocheted “cord” of 2 chains. It had 2 ends of about 20 cm for tying around the neck, and in the middle section a doubled loop of about 1 m of ribbon was dropped after every few chains. Upon finishing the neck cord, each loop of ribbon was cut in half, and the 2 strands of 1m each were finger. There is a conifer cone in a conifer tree

in the background. These cones open to scatter their seeds, and the finger-woven braid was manipulated through some of the “opened channels” of the conifer cones, to attach them to the necklace.
