I wanted to portray the four seasons as constantly evolving from one season to the next in an ever-changing circle: The dead stillness of winter, when the earth lies sleeping under its blanket of snow and grey skies, gives birth gradually to the flowers and greenery of springtime. Spring, in turn, grows ever more lush in the fullness, life, and colors of summer. Then autumn arrives and the leaves change color and fall to the ground, the grasses dry, the flowers disappear; until finally nature’s bounty dies off again and is buried beneath the winter, awaiting the rebirth of springtime.
